Who We Are

Eco-vital is woman-led non-profit, non-religious, non-political, and non-governmental organization based in Erbil, Iraq established to counter the impact of climate change and environmental degradation.

Iraq is among the top five countries most affected by climate change. Increase in the mean temperature, more frequent extreme temperature events, and shifting rain patterns have been evident in the country. The agricultural sector is one of the first to experience the consequences of climate change; with small-scale farmers being among the most affected groups. Many farmers have left agriculture seeking livelihood opportunities in urban areas, resulting in additional social and economic challenges.

Air pollution is moderate to toxic in Iraq due to unregulated energy and transport sectors. Environmental health as a consequence of poor air quality is causing respiratory infections and cases of cancer is reported from oil factories.

Eco-Vital aims to address these challenges through evident-based research, education, advocacy and promoting social, economic and environmental sustainability.
